🧠💡 Future-Focused: UDS Students Explore the Civic Power of Blockchain in Liberia
On June 28, ten students from the Uniting Distant Stars Computer Program embarked on an inspiring learning journey, attending the Alkebuleum Blockchain Launch Event at the Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville. The following is the computer students:
Manfred Toe Gibson Jr
Odell N. Gbehngeh
John J. Randall
Jessica Parker
Azariah Levis
Jefferson A. Garway
Sandra M. Payduweh
Solomon Briggs
Mohammed A. Jalloh
Emmanuel K. Konneh
Invited by former board member and longtime supporter Beyan Gonowolo and his colleague Ernesto Herbert, the students joined government officials and community leaders for an informative presentation introducing blockchain technology. This event aimed to explore the broader potential of digital systems to promote transparency and social progress.
The presentation showcased how blockchain could be used to:
✅ Prevent and detect corruption
📜 Confirm legitimate land ownership
🎓 Ensure academic records are securely documented and free from tampering
The students gained valuable insight into how digital tools can help build public trust, protect individual rights, and strengthen Liberia’s infrastructure.
Events like these reinforce the UDS mission to prepare students not just for careers—but for civic responsibility. These young learners are gaining perspective and motivation to use technology for good, and their presence at the event signaled a growing interest in ethical innovation.
